If you need to write a description about a user interface or complex schematics, it is always a good idea to keep them on your screen, next to your text editor, to make your work easier. SnipDock can make this style of work quite comfortable. The idea behind this application is simple, but very efficient. It allows you to take screenshots and dock them to one of the screen's edges. This gives you the possibility of referring to your captured objects while working on your project.

SnipDock is offered free of charge and it can be used on any modern Windows platform. The application can be installed in no time, without making any complicated settings. It doesn't use too much disk space, RAM or processing power, but it requires .NET Framework 4.0 or a later version.

The application comes with a compact user interface, which displays a few docking and snapshot options. When you launch SnipDock, the interface will be docked automatically to the right edge of the screen, but you may click different radio buttons to dock it to the right edge or to set it to floating window mode. Capturing a portion of the screen can be done in just a few seconds, by clicking a button and drawing a rectangle.

Once you take a screenshot, the image will appear immediately on the same interface. Also, snapshots are saved automatically in the Pictures folder, from the Windows Libraries, in JPG format. If you wish to capture something on the screen and nothing else, you can uncheck an option to save the image on the hard drive, without appending it on the user interface.

Most windows can't be set to stay on top of everything else. If you need to keep a window next to the interface you are working on, that window may get lost, especially if your screen gets too cluttered. When you dock SnipDock's interface or leave it as a floating window, your screenshot will remain visible at all times, regardless of what you have on your screen. If you maximize a window, the application's docked interface will stay next to the window, not over it. When you resize the interface, the adjacent windows will be resized and icons will be moved automatically, so they will remain visible.

Pros

You can dock screenshots to the screen's edges. Docked screenshots will remain visible at all times, regardless of what you have on your screen. Also, the screenshots you take are saved automatically on the hard drive.

Cons

You can't dock the interface to the upper or lower edge of the screen. With its simple and straightforward functionality, SnipDock can make your work much easier and more comfortable.
